Day 1 of no / low spend January a success! 1st pantry meal was tuna noodle pasta salad. Used up a half bag of frozen peas, can of tuna, rest of a open box of maccaroni, and the rest of the miracle whip in the jar!
Let’s hear your successes from today!
LaurenMom is having hip surgery soon, and both of our houses have stairs. Hers is a traditional townhome, with a railing on one side but on the other, she has a weird situation where the banister starts halfway down the staircase.
Mine is a split level, with a railing only on one side of the stairs.
She needs hand rails on both sides, because she’s relying on them heavily both coming and going.
Instead of calling somebody, I scooted myself over to Lowes, bought about $100 worth of supplies, and successfully installed rails at both of our homes (she will be staying with me after her upcoming surgery for a bit).
Each one will totally hold my entire weight, so I did it correctly and I don’t have to worry about her falling down the stairs because she doesn’t have anything to hold on to.
LssBoth of us had to work. We took food from home. I was very tempted to grab dinner but we ate at home.
My goal is to ALWAYS eat leftovers.
We did pretty well last year but want to do better this year.
TheresaTraditional southern new years meal. Plus, Yams were $1 for a large can. Brussels sprouts were on sale last week.
Topped the sprouts with an old out of date bag of salad topping that my husband and I tasted to decide were fine.
Husband said the sprouts were delicious.
Two cheap cans of turnips and black eyed peas. Box honey corn bread mix for $1.
MargrietSpend the day at home and had all 3 meals at home. With ingredients from home.
Start to take stock of what I have in my pantry.
SheilaAte breakfast and lunch at home, then dinner at a friend’s. I provided dessert. I baked an apple pie that was in the freezer, and made date squares with some dates that had dried out a bit.
The leftovers will be frozen in individual servings. Spent $0.
CharleneI actually started New Years Eve. 2 days down. Wrote menus for a week and I’m sticking to it.
Started cleaning out closets so that was a great eye opener of why I don’t need to spend anything.
AprilYay! Took a workout class for free because the owner is my friend. Made breakfast at home, and had dinner at my in laws! No spend Day 1: success
SueCooked a steak I got on sale for half price and ate half. Yay no spend!
HelenHaving the rest of the turkey breast for hot sandwiches. Did an inventory of the freezer and pantry.
Can do well for the next 7-10 days, May need milk but nothing more.
StephAte at home! Made art. Day one no.sugar and no buy a success.
RachelI made coffee in a thermos and brought it with me as I ran errands so I wouldn’t buy Starbucks
