I’m 74 and a new widow. I have been involved in two car accidents in the past 40 years. Neither were my fault. Credit is ok.

I took my hubby off my USAA and it went up $600.00. I checked Progressive and its only 300$ less for once driver., I have a car financed.

      Its a Kia.

Over $200 a month if monthly. Why and any ideas on less?

Do you have homeowners’ insurance you can bundle with the car insurance? This helps save.

Call The Hartford. I’m a new widow too & they lowered my rate by $900 for 6 months. I left Progressive for them.

And that’s with full coverage on my vehicle.

Sorry about the loss of you husband. My son and I have each other on our policies for the multiple driver discount.

Can you put one of your kids on your policy?

I went on AARP’s Hartford insurance, took the option to let them monitor my driving and I’m paying less than $70 a month.

Same thing happened to my dad when my mom died! I think insurance companies expect widows/widowers to get out more; driving and such.
                Dang.

                Lesson learned.

I’ll definitely keep mum about marital status if mine changes (divorce, etc).

I’m 40, recently widowed and with an 18yo driver and 2 cars, 1 full and 1 liability.

I was just quoted almost double my current premium with my deceased husband still on the policy, from $500+ to $900+ per month.

That’s ridiculous when one of the cars kbb is $2000.

Currently with AAA, but Idk for how long, they’ll probably drop me soon.

Was with USAA for around 30 years the price kept rising. It is crazy to charge more for one person, but they do.

I switched pay less than half with Progressive

So sorry for your loss. Yes, multi person/car discount for the insurance.

They wanted 235 for just me when I got a new car but when my boyfriend added me it went down to like 135 for my car.

I’m unfortunately these days they get you when it’s just one person.

It’s because they count that as multiple drivers and give a discount for that. Sorry for your loss, I ran into the same thing when my husband passed.

Check several other companies and see what they can offer.

I left Liberty and went with AAA and then moved to Progressive.

Well dang that’s why when I thought the insurance would go down and it didn’t after hubs went to non driver id.

I never considered that as a reason.

Do you have a company that is in your state but not national?

I changed from safeco to a small instate company and rates were much better.

“Single” unmarried drivers pay a higher premium. Mine went up when my husband passed away too. Unfair but it is their policy. . .

I am sorry for your loss.

New agent here, also own a Kia. The Kia has a high theft rate, you won’t get away from that unfortunately. However, I would recommend finding a trusted agent who writes for multiple companies.

They can do all the shopping around for you, within those companies.

They can also help you play with those numbers a bit, make your deductible higher to drop your premium etc.

You can normally get a pretty good discount by bundling your home and auto together (or renters insurance)

                                  I’m financing a kia. I switched from All State to geico. Have 3 cars; 2012 charger, 95 T100, and a 2019 kia. Total $284.

Full coverage for kia & liability for the other 2 (2 well seasoned drivers & a 20 yr old). Was paying close to $600 before I switched.

Was with all state for 10+ yrs & cost more than doubled in the last yr.

2 claims while with them (neither totalled & not too excessive damage).

You are now a widowed driver vs a married driver. It’s BS but it typically means there are more

Accidents in that category. I had the same thing happen.

Same thing happened to me was on Progressive also they wanted to raise mine too.

I went to The Hartford through AARP I just need basic coverage so I only pay 600.00 a year

So sorry for your loss. I lost mine 2yrs ago. Unfortunately having car ins as a single person cost more they married. Supposedly it’s a higher risk(Stupid)

They also use you’re credit score to figure out how much to charge you too.

What does your credit score got to do with how you drive I don’t know.

5yrs ago I move from MA to RI but only 2.5miles away. My car ins nearly doubled.
