I have a question related to FIRE goal. What is really the benchmark you set for yourself? I currentoy live in Germany.
The cost of living is so high here and I may need to save for 10 years before I could get my current salary in passive income.
However, if I relocate to my home country (Pakistan), my current savings are sufficient enough to afford me a decent living. In the long run, I would like to relocate to my homeland.
I am just wondering why people who are aiming for a FIRE goal do not consider relocating to other countries with low cost of living?
AnnaGeoarbitrage does exist and people do it. Personally I prefer to ensure good quality healthcare and ability to communicate with the staff in a reasonable manner in case something happens to me.
Anyway, 10 years seems just fine, not sure what’s your problem with it.
JonathanLanguage difference, cultural difference, unfamiliar with the area, safety, no family or friends there, political unrest, lack of freedoms, poor healthcare, etc.
For those that immigrated such as yourself have an advantage in some of these areas with probably Dual citizenship, language ect.
Also, usually the cheaper the country the standard of living gets lower.
JordanWho says we’re not considering relocating to other countries? It’s called Geographic Arbitrage and a ton of people practice it.
Some obviously can’t do it because they have to stay put and work in a city with a high cost of living.
But I work online and have spent a ton of time in Southeast Asia over the past 5 years.
Trentwould you just eat any food just because the cost is low? same logic
LeePeople want options as priority changes when they age. What if one day you want to escape Pakistan to live elsewhere for whatever reason?
