I’m looking for effective methods to get white baseball pants looking clean again after games. As you can imagine, they pick up all kinds of stains—dirt, grass, clay, and sometimes even mysterious ones I can’t identify!
Regular washing doesn’t always do the trick, and I don’t want to damage the fabric by scrubbing too hard or using harsh chemicals.
If you’ve found a reliable routine, product, or stain-removal hack that works well, I’d love to hear about it. Do you soak them first? Use specific detergents or pre-treatment sprays? Is there a certain washing machine setting or temperature that helps?
I’m open to both store-bought solutions and homemade remedies, as long as they’re effective and safe for the fabric. Bonus points if the method doesn’t require too much time or effort, since we go through multiple games each week.
Any tips or tricks that have worked for you would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
BeckyPressure washer? I used to soak my boys in the laundry sink with Oxy clean for a day or so.
ShirleyFels naptha bar works wonders on stains. Use a brush and this for grass stains and then wash.
Oxiclean soak over night after if still not white.
SuzanneTake to car wash stall, hang them on the car mats clips and pressure wash them in the car wash.
RachaelAlso, getting them treated ASAP is the key. I prefer a Fells Naptha bar and a little elbow grease! Works for me eveytime!
DebPowdered cascade. Make the stains damp, make a paste of cascade and gently rub on stain. Don’t get the paste on any colored stripes.
It may fade colors.
Rinse with warm water.
AngelaSoak in oxiclean to remove loose dirt and loosen stains. Spray with a mixture of dawn dish soap and hydrogen peroxide(2-1 ratio) and let sit for 5 min or more depending on severity.
Then use Fels Naptha soap and a sponge with a scouring side to scrub the stains.
This is the only way I have found that works.
XiaThese answers are so creative!! Power wash?? Car wash?? I would never think of it for clothing. I work at a fine dining restaurant where I need to wear white shirts and aprons and I get food, etc.
stains all the time.
My current routine is to pre-treat spot-clean with oxy clean, they have the spray bottle for maybe $4 at my grocery store.
I spray it on the stains and rub the fabric together and it usually disappears or at least lightens the stain.
Then I throw the whole lot in a bucket with non-splash bleach and some baking soda. Finally I wash in the washer with only the whites in it.
They do come out spotless every week; the oxy clean step is labor intensive but effective.
LoriI always used dishwasher detergent, like liquid cascade. Rub it on the stains, then wash in the washer like normal (with whites only).
DenniseNot sure the price, depends on how much you need but when my kids were young and getting all kinds of stains Zout was the only thing that worked.
I never bought Shout again. Zout can be hard to find however.
DanielleI use fels napstha, dawn dish soap and shout on the stains. Scrub by hand then soak in Out white Brite.
Power washing works but tears the pants up
MadisonIdk where I saw it, but there’s a video somewhere with pro baseball clubhouse attendants that had some great tips.
If anyone can give you the right answer, it’s them and/or sports moms.
