Hi, this question is about MintMobile. I got my new tank of mint mobile data for the 15GB plan, that data runs out during mid month for the first time, I didn’t do anything weird or abnormal, and normally I won’t even able to finish it.
I bought another 3GB for $20 last night, I thought this is going to last me for the remainder of the month.
Today I made one phone call, went for a long hike, barely used it. When I get back, it says I have used 80% of my freshly purchased data.
I called mintmobile, they pretty much just give me to runarounds saying maybe you did this, maybe you did that, like they asked me if i turn off ky data when not using my phone.
Who turns off data nowadays? I pressed hard to get at least my 3GB back.
They only agreed to apply $10 on my account and they claimed nothing is wrong with my account.
I’m very frustrated with them and their accusations. So, has anyone experienced this?
If so, what’s your resolution? First person did say there was a glitch on my network, and asked me to reset it, which I did. I’m just afraid it’s going to drain out again.
Thank you!
BillI understand you are upset, but there is about a 0% chance mintmobile did anything wrong and about a 100% chance you have some app constantly using data in the background.
You should be able to look the data usage by app on your device and find the issue.
Then restrict it to run only on WiFi. Apps push out updates all the time and sometimes they chew up battery or data until they figure out the bug causing it.
DavidI would be checking the apps on my phone to make sure they aren’t doing automatic updates or using wireless data while not in use.
PennyI have had mint over 4 years. Last year I took a 5 hour road trip and next thing I knew my data was depleted from using Apple CarPlay while driving.
I bought the extra 3gb’s as well but then just turned around and switched to unlimited so I would not have to worry about it anymore.
ChristopherMetering cellular data is increasingly difficult as system services grow more and more chatty.
If you have an unlimited option, that’s probably the simplest as long as it isn’t ruinous for your budget.
(We played the metering game aggressively for a long time due to a cheap grandfathered plan, but finally switched a few years ago, and it’s been fantastic, well worth the few extra bucks to free up the time and brain power)
LoriWhen you have WiFi available turn off your data. I have the 5 g plan and only run out if I use it for maps on a two hour car ride.
MaryA similar thing happened to me. Also, with Mint. Turns out I had one of my radio apps on and the volume was so low, I didn’t know it.
There’s an option on iPhone where you can only use certain apps if you are on WiFi.
LiszaI had been with AT&T since 2005 and decided to try mint mobile for a year to see how I would like it. I ran into this problem constantly, and I’m someone who rarely uses their phone.
Even worse, when I travel to Canada, the roaming that I paid for didn’t even work.
I found my experience with mint mobile to be less than stellar so I went back to AT&T and have been with them ever since.
Yes, I pay more, but I have no issues with my phone or service ever here or in another country.
Tony1. This isn’t a Mint Mobile issue.
2. Check what app or apps are draining your data. Either delete or disable the app when off Wi-Fi
3. Set a data notification to notify you when you drop below 50% so this issue never happens again.
RonFirst you need to find your data usage on your phone. Does it say you have used 17GB for the current period? If it doesn’t, show that to Mint Mobile to dispute what they say you are using.
If you find the culprits using too much data, restrict their data usage as shown for some apps in image.
I have a 2GB/month plan, $10, so I often have data off just to be sure.
FrankaMy husband had this happen but it turns out that his Samsung phone randomly turns off the wifi without a notification.
So maybe that happened?
