Hello all. I’m embarrassed to say my husband and I own a ‘every other year’ timeshare with Bluetree Resort in Orlando…for the past 30 years.
When the kids were younger, we went there every other year, and used some of the extra trips…but not for the last 15 years.
I’ve paid off the timeshare and. the maintenance fee $400 every year….now I just want to get rid of it.
Do I just call Bluetree to tell them I want to get rid of it…?
I know better than to contact a ‘wanna get rid of your timeshare with us’ places, but truly don’t know where to start. Any suggestions are appreciated!
TIA!
MarcelloCheck out the TUG forums and search for what other people in your situation did (is it possible to sell, give it back, donate to charity, etc). It’s a great resource.
As mentioned, don’t use the companies that “help” you get out of a timeshare, they are all a scam.
RoseOurs just took ours back. Prior to this we had tried multiple of the get rid of timeshare companies.
One of those did take our other timeshare
JoshuaNo need to be embarrassed. My inlaws are in the same predicament – ironcially owners of the (very likely) exact same Bluetree Orlando timeshare!
Thanks for posing the question.
TracyHaving seen many horrible scammers, this is the only legit “get me out of my timeshare” company that I have ever seen. You can actually visit their office which has been there for years.
I have no financial relationship with them, I’ve just seen them actually do the job as expected.
But they aren’t cheap. Definitely call the timeshare company first and see what they will do.
GinaStart with calling Bluetree to see what you can do to get out of the timeshare contract. Be very wary about contacting any “wanna get rid of your timeshare” places.
Most are scams, as my cousins found out first hand.
If you don’t have any success with Bluetree, I’d try to find a legitimate attorney who has experience with terminating or exiting timeshares to review your contract and help you.
If you do use an exit company, be very careful and vet them appropriately.
KishaYes. I did that a few years back. Ask about their buyback program. If it’s paid off they will just take it back.
At the time I did mine the program was only offered a few months out of every year so just check.
Also, they do not “buy it”.
RebeccaI’m in the same boat. I was “awarded” a paid off timeshare in a divorce and have been paying $57/month for it ever since.
We have used it once or twice to be fair (actually using it next month for Disney), but it is not worth it.
I called one of the places that buy them and it was going to cost ME $1000 to “sell it,” (scam lol). Mine a Wyndham.
Following for the advice!
ReemI heard Dave Ramsey’s website has this specific topic on there to help.
