Hi experts, Please weigh in my portfolio. I am ready to call quits in few years. We are 47 and 46 year young couple w/ 2 boys – 16 abd 9yo. We want to retire overseas ( Europe) once older one goes to college.

      Net worth 2.8k
1.5 mil invested (tax shelter like 401k/ira/ Roth/ hsa) and taxable brokerage account
      529- 140k combined for both

5 rental properties net income around 3k from rent
Total real estate equity – 1 million

100k cash for emergencies and rental reserves
We live on post tax 150k last year. Given that we still have kids so expenses are little inflated but we can comfortably live off of 120k.

Please weigh in your suggestions. I am eyeing on moving to Spain or somewhere warmer in few years.

Not sure what hobbies to develop as I am scared of the idea of being bored to death without work or anything worthy on retirement. ( separate topic)

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Moving could have a detrimental impact on your child’s ability to be charged in-state tuition in the US.

        Every state is different.

          Double taxation
Thats why I like Uruguay or Argentina.

In Uruguay,no double taxation for the first 11 years
In Argentina, you can get a 90 day visa and renew it for 90 days to avoid double taxation.

In order to qualify for social security benefits, you must return to the US every 6 months.

IMO retiring together with a partner is not ideal. Any relationship can end anytime, specially if you are planning your next 30 years of your life.

            FIRE alone

If you move permanently to Spain or Italy beware of taxation on your income and assets abroad.

You are considered a permanent resident in either country (for tax purposes) if you stay 183 days+/year.

3k net income with a 1 million rental property equity??? Am I reading this right or are you missing zeros.

                I would sell.

Your profile is freakishly similar to mine. I plan to retire in 5 yrs and time split between US and SE Asia post retirement.

I’m planning on teaching science, travel and getting even better at pickleball..
