Do you think everyone should have a dash cam? Have you ever had a situation where a dash cam would’ve helped?

Dash cams are becoming more popular as a way to record road incidents, provide evidence in accidents, and even deter reckless driving.

Some argue that they offer valuable protection for drivers, while others believe they are unnecessary or raise privacy concerns.

Do you think having a dash cam should be a common practice for all drivers? Why or why not? Share your thoughts!

Follow up question: do you think you should get one for the front and the back, or is just the front enough?

I finally installed one in my car and was hit while stopped at a red light 3 days later.

The other driver was going to just drive away, until I got out and yelled to him that it was all on video.

Paid for itself on day 3.

All 4 drivers in our house have a dash cam in their car. Especially my 17 and 20y/o. Hardly anyone believes a young driver.

There’s a light at the front of my neighborhood and people run it every day.

I probably have no fewer than 10 cars running it on just my dash cam alone. There’s been a few wrecks but most people get lucky.

I think it’s made my teens more responsible especially since my oldest hopped a curb when he first started driving and I pulled the footage.

Saw that he was just a few hundred feet from our house and he was trying to turn off the voice on Google maps.

Messed with his phone and watched his reaction. The second I asked about his tire having a scuff without even telling him I reviewed the footage he explained everything.

Both my boys are pretty honest. No damage done but it was he understood why I installed a dash cam.

Hardly anyone will believe a teen when out on the road driving.

It’s a total CYA and the camera doesn’t lie.

I have a relative that has one. She had passed someone on the highway and the camera captured them texting and driving.

Very shortly afterward they rear-ended her.

              She had a successful outcome.

A few months ago, a video went viral about a car in NY who purposely reversed into another.

They all came out of the car holding a different part of the body, as if the car they reversed into had actually rear-ended them.

But because of the footage of the dash cam, you could see they were trying to scam the driver thu insurance fraud.

That video made me get one.

As a licensed insurance adjuster, I wish it were mandatory for cars to have dash cams.

There is so much he said/she said out there.

Yes, indeed especially considering how inexpensive they are. My boyfriend borrowed my car and was waiting to pull into a parking space at a convenience store because the car next to the space had the passenger door open.

While he was waiting someone else backed out of their space and smashed into him.

The woman who did that was like the police chief’s girlfriend, and it was fully his word against hers.

I simply uploaded the video to her insurance company and the only thing they asked me was where I wanted the check mailed.

I got one because of all the crazy videos you see online. I haven’t been in a wreck with it, but I did record some guy get all road-ragey, smack into the side of a minivan with mom and kids, then ramp over the median into a flying side-swipe of a truck on the other side of the road.

When I turned around and went back to the scene, the road rager was surrounded by people who hadn’t seen what happened (due to the roads being separated by a bunch of trees in the median) and he was pretending like the car just randomly went crazy.

I waited until the police came and gave them the video.

One of my young adult kids was in a severe accident. On one hand I wish he’d had a dash cam, but on the other hand I’m not sure I’d have been able to watch the footage.

Since then, though, he has a dash cam!

We have one…got into an accident only to find my husband didn’t set it up properly & it didn’t record Luckily the lady admitted 100% fault.

Definitely think every car should have one…makes me drive better too cuz I know everything is (now) being recorded.

I own a business so it’s a little different. I had someone intentionally slam their brakes on in front of one of my techs.

They barely tapped the back of their vehicle and they tried to claim an injury.

The dash cam saved us! My insurance company told me that was becoming a big problem.

We were able to show it to the police and send to our insurance company.

I just had another issue as well and the person cut my tech off and scraped the front bumper.

I’ve personally never been in a situation that would have warranted having one, but I wouldn’t be opposed to installing a free one if there was a program put out by my insurance company and they were relatively maintenance free.

I was in an accident years ago where the cop split us up, the other person lied, and had I had one, I could’ve proven it. (Other guy had fake plates which I later proved and they still wouldn’t amend the report and told me if I ever wanted help at work (hospital) from police then I’d be smart to stop pushing the issue).

My kid was in a minor wreck and a third party had a dash cam, made everything a whole lot easier!
