And THAT is how we will survive the “great grocery store price increase” situation we face now. By being resourceful and thinking outside the box. Gone (for now) are the meat, starch and vegetable days. It’s time to stretch those groceries until they break.
Good share, great tips and good eating to us all.
DuncanI wait until pork butt is on sale, grind it and make my own breakfast sausage, lumpia, chorizo and Italian sausage.
I vac pack in portion sized ms and freeze.
KarenI tried using lentils in place of burger in my spaghetti sauce – found a recipe online. It was better than I thought it would be, and much healthier too.
NicoleNice. I will have to try this brand. I usually buy the Gwaltney brand ground pork sausage for making biscuits and sausage gravy.
PamelaThat’s expensive for only 2 lbs. My big chain grocery stores regularly have Jimmy Dean, or store brand breakfast sausage for $2.25 to $2.99 a pound on sale. I find WalMart to be more expensive than the chain grocers; unless this is your only option, skip WalMart – do they even have store coupons or reward points like Fry’s or Kroger etc.?
MelissaNice, I do the same. I buy Spicy for more flavor. I especially like about a 1/3# in my quiche.
