We have to travel by car a lot during the week, about 3 hours round trip. Sometimes it’s only 2 of us, sometimes 5 so we actually still get time together as a family. It’s not work-related. Expenses can add up quickly.
What are your best tips for saving on or minimizing car-related travel expenses?
CalebCredit cards that give cash back or points on fuel. Upside or other similar apps that provide additional cashback on fuel. Take snacks instead of constant gas station snacks. Some people may jump to say replace with a more fuel efficient car and while that can have an impact that can easily be negated in a situation where you go up to a more expensive car so that’s not necessarily worth it.
If you’re crossing state lines at all and there’s a regularly significant difference in fuel price try to make sure you’re fuelling in the spot that has more affordable gas (example our gas is usually 20 to 30 cents cheaper per gallon when my inlaws visit so they try to make sure they’re fuelling up here, it’s not huge, maybe 5 bucks a tank difference but every little bit helps.
DwayneKeep up with basic car maintenance. Oil changes, tire rotation, air filters all help save gas and make the car last longer.
KristiCooler of drinks and snacks AT ALL TIMES. Make ur own coffee. Sandwiches. Bulk chips, crackers. Cut up ur own meat and cheese. I now LOATH needing to run in somewhere, especially for a beverage. Use store apps to clip coupons on sale items. You can get ur sodas for around 30 cents this way.
