others could maybe chime in with their tips. So if you sell things online, what tips do you have for a new Seller?
Here’s mine: I set up for Buy It Now sales only, no auctions.I always have the Buyer pay shipping because I could be shipping to Alaska or Hawaii or across the country, unless it’s a media mail item (books, DVDs, etc), then I charge a flat fee which covers the cost plus a little extra for handling costs.
I use eBay discounted shipping and select two with the lowest cost for the Buyer.
I reuse Amazon and other packing, so no cost for my shipping materials except tape which I buy at the Dollar Store (in the Hardware section). Newspapers make good stuffing.
I also reuse the clean side of used paper to print out labels (nothing with security info). Smaller, easy to pack items = eBay. Larger, heavier, breakable, or hard to pack items = FB Marketplace.
If selling locally, I usually meet Buyers at a nearby CVS, which has cameras in the parking area, never at my home.
Some items take a long time to sell, but that doesn’t bother me… eventually there’ll be a Buyer for my item if it’s priced properly. I search eBay for what things are selling for currently and also what they recently sold for.
Please add your tips in the Comments!
CharleneMarketplace. Local meeting only, no shipping as of yet. Don’t use Zelle, Venmo or other pay apps. Too many scammers. Don’t meet at home. Use Police station, convenience store.
Any safe to you, populated space. Check other prices for similar items that have sold.
Ones still online are probably priced too high, and that is why they aren’t selling.
Best of luck to anyone trying this great adventure of selling unwanted items.
StevenGreat tips. I’ve sold many times on ebay. I lack motivation to take photos & post items.
No clue why that seems so hard, but I procrastinate when I have several things I should be listing.
PattyIf you have a grow light or excellent indoor lighting, you can start some heirloom tomato seeds, transplant once and then sell on Craigdlist or local facebook
CarolynI sell my stuff and stuff for others… friends and family…They bring me stuff they don’t want/ need anymore. I post list and sell.
We split 50/50 I have room in my basement for storage so it works well
