So I’ve recently reached FIRE and looking for inspiration on what to do with my next chapters in life. I’m 35M and am originally from Canada but currently solo backpack traveling around SE Asia.

Trying to uncondition all that strict frugality and give my self permission to splurge on lifestyle upgrades.

I used to enjoy traveling a lot but now just prefer to integrate deeper into a location and build deeper connections.

I guess I don’t crave that hedonic treadmill anymore?

Would appreciate perspectives from others who’s also made it.

      Cheers!

I’d love to hear your story, 35yo and reached fire is no mean feat. If your open send me a message. Otherwise enjoy.

IMO you don’t have to do it any certain way, re learn strict habits to a point YOUR happy, don’t compare yourself to others.

Find a purpose so your fulfilled and you’ll live a very happy life.

What about joining volunteering organization or humanitarian missions? I won’t reach FIRE for another year and plan on slow traveling but that is also something I think about, something beyond being a travel nomad

I’d love to hear more about how you were able to reach FIRE so early! Would you be open to sharing how your finances are structured—especially since at 35, you probably don’t have full access to retirement accounts yet?

It’d be super helpful for those of us still figuring things out

It sounds like you enjoy traveling, so maybe a flexible hobby or passion project could be a great fit—something that keeps you engaged without tying you down, so you can still pick up and go whenever you want.

I haven’t done this myself, but it seems like it could be a good balance. You’ve worked to spend, so try not to get too focused on your finances.

Teach what you know. Achieving FIRE at 35 is an amazing accomplishment!

Spend a little bit every day on
someone else…buy someone’s coffee, get the grocery tab for a young Mom with kids.

              The spend doesn’t have to
              be on yourself. Pretty rewarding
              making others happy

Most of all congrats for stepping off the hedonic treadmill

                Splurge! Enjoy it.
You’re young. Do all the mountain climbing you want. There’ll come a time when you can’t.

So don’t have regrets to take advantage of today for what you have in healthy body.

You can always do a little side work here and there if you need to.
                Happy travels!

Try traveling for sport. There is purpose, reason to level up and you’ll meet lots of cool people too.

I do horse riding if you’re up for that – it’s pricey lol or maybe some ocean sports, a reason to give yourself beach vacations haha

I personally work here and there to keep “fun money” coming in so I don’t feel as bad spending it and plan trips throughout the year since I can’t just sit around.

I do one big challenge for myself each year to keep goals for myself.

I splurge here and there and buy a drink instead of get water at restraunts…

                    small steps.
