If you had a senior in high school and only had time to read and discuss one financial book with him before he leaves the house for college or other adventures, what would that one book be???
And if you had time for 2 or 3 books, what would be your #2 and #3 books? Help me decide, there’s too many goods ones!
SageI read a lot of books on the matter and most of them weren’t great.
A simple path is great as a how to but doesn’t necessarily instill the type of thinking that FIRE requires.Your money or your life is a good candidate for younger readers that may not be interested in money right away.
CamiThe Financial Feminist for sure for ALL daughters and sisters out there.
The Millionaire Next Door is also basic and thought provoking.
RossI think The Millionaire Next Door would be my top choice. It’s an easy read and it will change their mindset on what wealth is and what it looks like.
The authors talk about a study they did of millionaires and all the surprises they found about their behaviors and their lifestyles.
There are lots of good books about the mechanics of investing and personal finance, but I think the mindset foundation is the most important step.
Without that, many use the mechanics books to search for get rich quick schemes and even if they succeed to some degree, they won’t have the foundation in place to sustain their success over the long term.
BrandieQuit Like a Millionaire. It will help them not overspend on college.
VeerleThe Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel
This book is invaluable because it focuses on the behavioral side of money how emotions, habits, and mindset impact financial success more than just knowledge of investing. It teaches young & adults that financial success isn’t just about earning and investing, but also about avoiding mistakes, understanding risk, and developing a long term mindset.
It’s an engaging, easy read that sticks with you.
WendyI had issues getting it down to 3. So, here’s my number 1 and then 3 more.
