I’ve had a contractor working on my house from wind and hail damage that occurred last June. My insurance co is holding a $5200 payment because the contractor wont send an invoice.
The contractor keeps telling me he’s working on it. I have not paid the contractor yet and he still has some work to do to finish.
I’m wondering if I can fire the contractor and what my chances are of getting something worked out with my insurance company to get reimbursed without this contractor’s invoice.
I’m sick of all the excuses for this ongoing project.
Any insight?
TIA
EricDo you have a signed contract for the work? If so, did it not include liquidated damages if the project went beyond the agreed completion date?
JacobSounds like you’re trying to be shady and screw over the contractor for work he’s already done. He’s obviously not in a hurry to get paid if he hasn’t submitted the invoice.
What does it matter to you when the insurance company pays him?
May want to explain yourself further.
A lot of contractors take forever.
LukeMost states you can fire the contractor
With notice and you will owe materials & labor up to that point.
Have you asked what the hold up is?Have you verified he is licensed? Often if he isn’t, he may realize he isn’t getting paid when insurance asks for an invoice with his license number.
Usually It is best to communicate with your insurance first. Ask them the process and what needs to happen if you change mid project.
Ask the contractor for a timeline and if he can’t give you one, ask for a bill for labor and materials to date and let him know that you need to find someone that can finish sooner.
You didn’t say anything about the quality of work so that is a plus. Hopefully no issues there
Out of curiosity, how long ago did you ask for an invoice?
MichaelIf you haven’t paid the contractor yet l what exactly are you getting reimbursed for?
KristenProbably not likely. They want to see proof you had the work done and what exactly was done.
I’d get the invoice, I mean surely the contractor will want to be paid eventually.
Until then I’d just wait, if you fire the guy it will be hard to get what you need.
Maybe contact your insurance agent and see if there are options.
