I don’t want to buy a new laptop. My laptop won’t hold or take a charge. Is this fixable?
I’m willing to pay to fix it, but I don’t want to buy a new one.
TIA
AllisonWould depend entirely on what kind of laptop it is. So many newer laptops have parts soldered on and aren’t replaceable.
ChristineYou can order a new battery. They just pop out. Very easy fix
MeganIt could be the battery, which is an easy and cheap fix.
But if it won’t take a charge, it could also be something with the charging port. When we had this issue, it was cheaper to replace than fix
SandraReplace the battery. Google a YouTube video of how for your laptop.
LorettaOrder a new battery or a workaround is to order a powerbank that can power laptops.
That 2nd option is multipurpose as you can use the powerbank for emergencies ex: powering other devices
StephenieI was able to buy a new battery off Amazon and replace it. I had to look up what kind of battery my make and model of laptop had.
It was only $35. But the precision screw drivers they sent with the battery did not work – so I had to buy a set.
I bought the cheapest at $8 and tried them one by one until I found the right size.
I took the old battery to my local hardware store to be recycled and gave the extra screw drivers away via my city’s Buy Nothing page.
I kept the ONE screw drivers away that worked to remove the back off my laptop
CharlesDepends. First, make sure all your documents are backed up. For that, I advise using Microsoft OneDrive. It is part of Office 365 if you have a subscription to that.
Then it is very easy to swap out the battery from inside the laptop.
You’ll need to just be sure that you have the right battery for your specific model laptop
CallieKeep it plugged in until it dies or replace the battery (sometimes you can’t).
DeborahYou probably just need a new battery but unless you need it to hold a charge whole youvtravel, you could just use it plugged in.
EstelleThis happened to me and I bought a new battery. Still would take a charge. I, too, live with it plugged in.
It’s been about 2 years or more now.
GennaWhen I had that problem I just kept it plugged in all the time. It was an older one and I was living overseas so it was harder to get a replacement battery.
AprilThere’s many helpful YouTube videos that explain how to replace the battery in a computer
