Hi everyone,
I need a bit of help with some homegrown leaf lettuce. Yesterday, I harvested, cut, and washed the leaves from my garden. After rinsing, I let them air dry and then placed them in a bowl—but I left the bowl uncovered overnight. Now the lettuce looks a bit wilted and limp.
Is there anything I can do to perk it back up or bring some crispness back? I was hoping to use it in a salad today. I’d really prefer not to waste it, especially since it came from my own garden.
Any tips for reviving lettuce that has lost its crunch? Should I try soaking it in cold water or putting it in the fridge a certain way? I’d appreciate any advice or tricks you’ve found helpful.
Thanks in advance!
KathleenAfter I wash it, I lay it out on paper towels to dry most of the way. Then roll it up in the same paper towels, put in a zip lock in the fridge
SusanYou don’t pick it until u are ready to eat it. Pick, wash and eat.
RobinRinse again in cold water drain a bit (lettuce spinners work well and can often be found at thrift shops), then refrigerate.
MarySoak it in ice water for about 10 minutes. Pat dry and wrap in paper towels.
Hope this helps.
ShirleyI put my lettuce like flowers in the fridge. I stand the leaves up, uncovered, with just the bottom in water.
It’s stays fresh longer.
JanisPlunge in a ice water bath it’ll come right back store with a wet paper towel
TinaKeep it wrapped in dry paper towels in a ziplock baggie with the air sucked out.
They wilt from the moisture
DianaA salad spinner is a great thing. I have a small one. It was a good purchase, and I’m not in to gadgets.
