So I lost $1200 in dependent care FSA because I didn’t know to claim it 90 days after my last day of employment.
We were let go, massive cut. But not once employer or WeX advised me to claim it!
How is this legal, imagine the amount of money lost in a year by many….
EllenWe didn’t use our money – thought we had until March (because you usually do). But employer switched companies so had a 1/1 deadline.
Called our FSA and they said companies reimbursed (our money). Our company wrote us a check.
Just thought – your old company may have been given the money in which case they should be passing it along to you
MansfieldI don’t have any kids but if you email your governor, their office can help! I get an email response and a personal call within 24-48 hrs (normally 24!) any time I have an issue with anything.
Brianthat happened to me but less money. They said ask my employer for it and they said ask the holding company. Never got it back.
I call that my stupid tax, and I ain’t making that mistake again.
I DO Believe you can deduct what you ‘lost’ on your taxes in the dependent care section, but it wasn’t all of it.
JenniferAll FSAs are use it or lose it and most are gone the last day of employment so you were given 3 months longer than most.
ChrisAgreed all these hsa companies put you through the bureaucratic hurdles. Their web sites typically suck.
They find some reason to not pay u. When they do pay they don’t follow there own policies for paying in 3 days.
If you use the card they ask you for proof 6 months later.
Then put ur account on hold if you can’t find a receipt. Barely worth it unless your a full time accountant.
MaryThey tell you that FSA is use it or lose it before you sign up
GinaThe holding company never gets to keep it. It’s always returned to the employer if the employee doesn’t use it.
RaquelI got ripped off with my HSA too. They made it impossible to get reimbursed
