      Just venting!
The challenging dynamics of my current role, just nine months in, are leading me to consider a 12-week medical leave.

While a significant factor is the $120k in unvested stock (after taxes) and the potential $40k bonus repayment tied to my tenure, the inability to explore compelling external job opportunities is also a major concern.

Remaining in this role for the additional three months needed to secure these finances would mean staying in an environment where my manager’s behavior consistently triggers me, hindering my ability to focus and thrive.

Medical leave would provide the necessary time and space to actively pursue these opportunities, which is currently impossible with my full-time job and family responsibilities.

I’ve been in highly toxic workplaces. I’d still absolutely stick it out for three months for even just that bonus.

You can’t control how your manager behaves. You can control your response to that behavior.

Care less for the next three months.

I know you are just venting, but verify your employer doesn’t prohibit job searching while on leave because many do.

You don’t want to create an even more stressful situation.

Hopefully the leave recharges you and gives you clarity!

Will your job allow you a 12 week medical leave if you’ve been there less than one year? If so, that is a great perk.

Most places only approve leave strictly along FMLA guidelines (in the US).

And that means at least one year of tenure first, and one year of tenure between leaves.

Stick it out, but take whatever leave you can without getting fired.

Solidarity. Sometimes the money isn’t worth it…
Personally I left a job that was like daily psychological warfare.

After 18 months I just couldn’t take it anymore and gave my resignation- forfeiting a yearly 100k bonus / guaranteed 300k yearly salary with the support of my husband.

Friends and family told me to stick it out, but my husband could see it was killing me and wanted me to leave that situation. When a parent is miserable the whole house is miserable.

As hard as I tried to be strong, I was so deeply exhausted and unhappy.

With his salary and our savings we’re ok and I’ll go back to work soon but I’m still recovering at the moment from burnout.

Your sanity is worth more than the 120k unvested stock.

It’s ok to give yourself permission to let it go if that’s what you need to do.

Can you sprinkle in paid sick days and paid time off days throughout those 3 months to make it through.
