Everything is joint. Been married 19 years and have never once had a fight about money. Works great for us.

Married 20 + years all of our money accounts (checking, savings, credit cards, emergency funds etc…) are joint, but our investment accounts are separate.

Separate, married 12 years, but we both had good money before coming into the marriage.

But truly depends on the financial situation. For example, if you know from the get go that your significant other manages money poorly, 100% separate accounts. You’d be setting yourself up for financial fallout if joint accounts.

              Happy hunting!

Despite what these righteous marriage zealots say there is no right or wrong when it comes to this question, but there are certain rules. Retirement accounts are by definition individual. Investment accounts can be joint. We have been married 20 years and have all of the above.

Joint works for us but not everybody. Gotta figure out what works for your situation and relationship. Yes, I know assets are generally 50/50 in a marriage…but marrital assets are a different thing than acount ownership and tax code.

You’ll probably get a mixed result of answers. Joint or individual accounts are not right or wrong. It all depends on the individuals.

All joint accounts except for retirement accounts, which have to be separate.

I think there is a distinct difference in what people do when it’s a second marriage or when already established people get married later in life. When you start out young and build everything together is most commonly when you see all joint. If I were to get married again, it would all be separate.

Together 16 years, married 5 years and have never opened a joint account.
