What low-cost cell phone carriers do people currently love?
We switched to Xfinity Mobile years ago. I tried to add a line for my son, and they want $20/mo to add a line. Seems high.
My kids don’t have phones yet.

The irony is that my oldest got a job, but needs a smartphone to clock in/out at work. I’m hoping that he can use an old phone over wifi.

I think he can, but I’m also looking at other options.

Mint Mobile. Very cheap and works great in cities. I’ve heard it’s not good in rural areas though, so depends where you live (they have a coverage checker on their website based on zip codes).

Google voice if Wi-Fi is indeed an option. Otherwise $20/mon is reasonable based on my research.

I use Tello. But most of my reasons are because I’m a traveling nomad and they have very inexpensive service to keep my US number alive (and working via eSIM and WiFi calling).

            US mobile is good too.

I have used US Mobile since 2017. It has extremely flexible plans. For example I was overseas for 5 years and kept a plan/number for $2.98/mo.

When I needed to authenticate login, I’d go online and add a package of texts for $1.50 and I could receive texts.

When I came back I got a regular plan that meets my needs for $10/mo (2GB data, unlimited calls and texts).

I don’t really need data (retired, no car, no ubers, no need to watch videos while I’m outside the house, simple lifestyle).

They had or have pretty awesome customer service. I say had because I haven’t had to use it much for years, which is a good thing.

But when I used it I was surprised I’d get a response to an email in minutes and immediate pick up for phone calls and chats.

I hope it’s still like that.

Mint mobile but have also looked at Tello for some family members that don’t need as much service

Is that for unlimited? I pay $35/month before taxes to share 3 GB between 3 people on Xfinity.

We used cricket for years and it was great, but when we moved Mint became more reliable so we switched about a year ago and have been happy.

Visible for 5 lines…$25 per line unlimited. Good coverage and have travelled all over US

We use Cricket – $30 per line
I need a hotspot so that is an additional $10 per month
They use ATT towers so we get good service in our area

Helium Mobile has a free plan with 3GB, 300 texts, and 150 minutes of calling. That’s the bare minimum I could see anyone using, but it’s an option…

The catch is they want to know your location all the time. You’re basically trading their data for data on you.

If you want a referral code when you sign up, feel free to message me, but it’s not necessary (I think…)
