Should we sell our 2003 Honda Civic or keep it despite the costs?

I would love your opinions. We gave a 2003 honda civic. Bought in 2006. 130k miles. It will need 3000$ of work by April. We have a 2015 crv in great shape.

Hub is not driving much, and can’t easily get into the smaller car.

It costs 1000 for insurance ( more than the crv) …so I am thinking of getting rid of it. Sell it with full disclosure…

Why is this hard? Coordinating schedules, as I am a caregiver for my mom a few days a week…and I love the car. (Freedom) Tell me what you would do.

We are retired, being careful, but comfortable.

Why is your car insurance so high? We have 2, 20+ year old cars and our insurance (liability only) for both cars is only $ 460 dollars per year.

I would fix it. If it’s been a good and reliable car, at least you know where it’s been, how it’s been driven etc.

if you buy another used car you never know WHAT you’re getting.

I had a sorta similar issue, but mine was a 2017 with $166,000 miles and needed at least 5k of work.

I drive back and forth from Indiana to Florida several times a year, so I traded it and bought a new car.

I did not want to be stranded on I-65

That particular year of Civic was not great. Known for exhaust and transmission problems. I personally would sell it.

You’re looking at spending more than the car is worth just to keep it going.

            Keep the newer car.

It’s a far more reliable model.

What is the $3000 for? I had a 2005. Great car but it blew a head gasket at 180k and also at 270k.

I’d go in it until this happens.

It will due to the gasket design.

Do you have easy access to Uber and Lyft? That might be a better alternative than a second car.

A car means freedom. It would be hard for us to live with just one. I work. Hubby retired.

                  Raising 2 grandchildren.

I’d keep the better car. Who wants to be walking or stranded in retirement.

I would want a complete list of repairs because 3000 could quickly go to 6000.

Keep the newer car as nowadays the $ to fix the car is very high if I was you

Did you know about people stealing something off front of cars, worth over $2k.

                        I don’t recall which Hondas.
