What are the most cost-effective ways to buy wild birdseed? Are there any bulk purchasing options, local suppliers, or alternative sources that offer better deals than traditional retail stores?

I’d love to hear any tips or strategies for saving money while keeping backyard birds well-fed!

I buy in bulk at Wmart. They have 20 lb and 40 lb bags of the black sunflower seeds, it is the Pennington brand. Sometimes I mix it with the classic wild bird seed (same brand).

It smells and looks fresh. Other cheap brands look dried up.

I have started putting out the round seed cakes, which are about $3 and the birds love it and it takes a few days for them to devour it.

I feed the birds to keep my inside cats entertained.

At a farm supply store. Not big box stores.

Buy some seeds and plant it throughout your space, and then let the plants stand during winter for birds to pick over

If you are near Costco, they have the best bird seed at the best price. I pay $19.99 for 30 lbs.

The Costco bird mix contains black oil sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, peanuts, and dried fruit.

              The songbirds love the mix.
