Two weeks ago, I saw a frother in the Aisle of Shame at Aldi. Without hesitation, I put it in my cart and kept trucking. Five feet later, I paused, backed the cart up, realizing it was an unnecessary impulse buy.
I held the frother lovingly in my hand, imagining the delicious coffee drinks it would make.
And then pointed out to myself that I didn’t think I needed it ten minutes ago.
And I don’t have drawer space to store it.
Sadly, I put it back on the shelf.Today, I realized I can froth milk in the blender I already own. Craving satisfied!
Small win, but it’s how I have been frugal recently.
GloriaBut don’t you lose ultimately. A frother is a quick rinse under the faucet…. a blender is not!
KatherineI swear people around me probably think I’m nuts. I’m always talking to my 10 month old about how nice or yummy something is but how we don’t need it and then put things back.
He’s so little I know he doesn’t understand but he’s the only one there so we talk haha
ElizabethWhen something is on sale, but I don’t need it and just want it, I tell myself it will be on sale again.
If I still want it at that time, then I’ll buy it. Works for me.
TrishConversely I searched for and purposefully ordered my frother. Use it every day and love that it only cost $8.
KarenGreat! I have even brought things home and said why and returned it.
You showed great thoughtfulness avoiding it in the first place.
IamI bought a frother on Amazon for under $5 a few years ago & it still works. Multiple people in my home use it daily (my kids use it to mix their hot cocoa too).
If I had to wash a blender every time someone wanted frothy milk….
If you ever find yourself back in that aisle, don’t be ashamed.
If you’ve been frugal with every purchase so far, you probably deserve to treat yourself by now.
TammyThose frothers are sadly junk. I bought so many, finally got a tiny blender from a friend and it works great.
JennyI have a frother but am sometimes too lazy to use it (install batteries, wash carefully, etc.) so I whisk it… yes, I warm up my coffee (from big batch) in a pan.
JessicaI did the same! We have one that I use multiple times a day. I use it for clear protein and sometimes coffee. I wanted it as a back up.
I put it back because the current one isn’t broken and we don’t need to store it.
LindaI try not to go down the AOS isle and stick to my food budget
DonnaI love that. I put 2 things back at the store on Sunday & was so happy when I left.
JoSomething else to consider is the quality of products that Aldi has. I got a Press that fell apart in under a month. And have read reports of others who have had unsatisfactory experiences with Aldi products.
And I love Aldi, but I also think it is frugal to go for the value and longevity of a product.
I’d rather get the best price of a high-quality appliance.
NormaI bought 2. They are going to be given as Christmas gifts to two coffee drinkers in my family.
